Latest From My Sketchbook

When I make a sketch, I do not take up portraits very frequently. This is one that I was making after a long time.

No ... this is not a self portrait :-))
I made this from the photograph of a lesser known actress - I am not a fan of hers; I liked the light-and-shade effect in the photo. The picture has not come out to be a good resemblence to the person, but guess away, if you like to. I might even think of giving a prize if I like any answer sufficiently ;-)

I've got it! I've got it!!

That's Madhuri Dixit in her late teens!!! You definitely wanted to mislead us by saying that the portrait is of a lesser known actress!! :-)

Jokes apart, that was a good portrait, Sigma!Seriously!

@LeziB: Hahaha. Nice answer, but incorrect :-) I am not trying to mislead anyonw. Honest :-D But thanks for your kind words.

@Sriram: Welcome here. And thanks to you too. I need to improve a lot, and encouragement motivates me in the right direction :-)

Hmmm Is she a bollywood actress ?

More than that I am interested in the sketch. Nice one, the shades have come out very well. Keep it up.

@Cuckoo: She is supposed to be ;-)
Thanks for the encouraging words :-)

So, who got the prize??

You must declare the name of the heroine at least !!

Noone even tried to guess, except for Leziblogger. So I guess I should give the prize to him. Now I have to think what should the prize be :-D
As for her identity, it is Deepal Shaw. I made this from a photo of hers in the newspaper. Now I guess I should run for cover before you rush out to thrash me :-)

Okay, finally we know!!

Pretty generous, Sigma!I love such races where I come first without even touching the finishing line!:-)

btw, added you to my 'links' section!

Hmmm that you have spilled the beans, I saw it again & again. It does look like Deepal Shaw but hey come on... an actress ??

No way.

Cuckoo, I rightly felt that I should run for cover :-D
At least that is what the tabloid (TOI) claims :-P
Look again - I said she is "supposed to be" :-)

i thought i had replied here...

Deepal Shaw? an actress? *blink blink*

Anyways, Sigma, keep practising. The eyes are a bit skewed, or is it how Deepal Shaw looks? The eyes are the window to the soul of a person. Monalisa is known for her smile, but her eyes are the most important. If you look into her eyes with sadness you will feel that she is sad. It reflects your inner feelings.

Many artists do not draw the eyes, obviously they are the most trickiest ones... not drawing the eyes is many a times deliberate too.. if they dont want to get personal to the potrait...

Keep practising... :-)

@ PM: Lol! As I told Cuckoo, it is as an actress that the newspaper describes her :-D

The eyes have not come out well - most of it is my fault, part of it is camera's. I agree, it is the eyes that give expression to an otherwise lifeless sketch.
In a face, I always draw eyes. Usually I can draw (and paint) eyes reasonably okay; but in this case, I think I applied a little too much of pressure, which distorted the texture of the paper, resisting my attempts to correct the shape of the left eye.

Thanks for your feedback :-)
